  • “The Belt and Road” Promotes Yiwu Going Global

  •     On the morning of April 26, the opening ceremony of the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation took place in Beijing, again attracting the attention of the world. In nearly 6 years since it is proposed, the “Belt and Road” Initiative has been highly recognized by the international community due to its principle of openness, cooperation and mutual benefit. As a pivot of Zhejiang's integration into the “Belt and Road” Initiative, Yiwu has actively promoted unimpeded trade, financial integration and people-to-people bonds among cities along the “Belt and Road”, and shaped a regional cooperation pattern. Data shows that in the latest quarter, Yiwu's import and export value totaled 60.92 billion yuan, of which the trade volume between Yiwu and the countries along the “Belt and Road” contributed to 51.2%.
         At present, “Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe” CRE train heads to the most overseas cities and transports the most varieties of goods. It also makes Yiwu and the countries along the “Belt and Road” closer and closer in trade and cultural exchange. In the first quarter of this year, “Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe” CRE train gained strong momentum of growth. According to statistics, Yiwu Customs has checked a total of 4,716 TEUs, with a year-on-year increase of 10.2%. The freight volume of “Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe” CRE train reached 38,000 tons, up 11.9% on year-on-year basis, and the total import and export volume was up to 1.54 billion yuan.
        Relying on the “Belt and Road” Initiative, “Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe” CRE train began running, and brought a bigger market for Yiwu enterprises. It can be reflected from the data provided by Yiwu Customs. In 2018, Yiwu's imports from and exports to countries along the “Belt and Road” amounted to 125.21 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 6%, of which exports were 124.29 billion yuan, up 6%, and imports were 920 million yuan, down 1.9%. In the first quarter of this year, Yiwu's imports and exports totaled 60.92 billion yuan, 31.17 billion yuan of which was related to countries along the “Belt and Road”, representing an increase of 3.4% year on year. The trade volume between Yiwu and countries along the “Belt and Road” accounted for 51.2% of Yiwu's total import and export value, with exports of 30.83 billion yuan, up 2.7%, and imports of 340 million yuan, up 120%.
